King-Priest

I have always been fascinated by the idea of contrasting dualities within characters. The ultimate evil, come to manifest the greatest good. I suppose everybody loves stories of redemption. And yet we (I) also have this morbid fascination with stories of destruction: Stories in which golden protagonists fall ever deeper into the dark side.

The King-Priest is centered around those themes. It is the tale of the finest of men, made to inflict the most hideous of deeds. It explores conflicting loyalties: Duty, morality and faith, each pulling in different directions at times, on the central character.

Unlike the Memory of the Sun project, King-Priest is neither brief, nor is there a resolution in my mind that I need to sit down and write. It is a vast, sprawling world, with powerful themes, played out across the canvas of aeons, not seasons. It may be possible that this project will manifest itself in one long chronicle.

Or alternately, I might translate this into a series of short, self sufficient works at various points in the timeline.
